Scripture Pictures Revealed

Written by Sarah Jones

I’ve always enjoyed nature and beautiful scenery, even as a young girl. I loved growing up in the country and running around barefoot in our backyard woods. I remember sitting on the couch with my dad flipping through National Geographic magazines of exotic places all over the world and dreaming of being a photographer someday.

My family encouraged me to pursue my love for landscape photography. At the age of 9, my parents gave me my first SLR camera and I began capturing my corner of the world through my lens.

In high school, I had the idea to combine scriptures with my photography. After all, God is the true artist and nature tells His story. I gave several of my friends my very first "Scripture Pictures" as graduation gifts. I loved creating Scripture Pictures because it gave the glory back to God. One of those first pictures featured the verse Jeremiah 17:7-8 about being strongly rooted in the Lord wherein my company name originated.

After marriage, my husband, Luke, encouraged me to officially start Strong Roots Design, and helped make my dream a reality. In our 7 years of marriage, we have traveled to many different National Parks throughout the United States. Luke shares my love of hiking, and he patiently waits for me on the trail as I take tons of shots to get the perfect one. I remember one memorable hike in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where I had stopped to capture a shot. He was puzzled at what I was taking a picture of because we had just left the big, gorgeous waterfall. When I pointed out the pine branch with water droplets on it that he had walked right by without noticing, he said, “Wow, you can see the beauty in anything!” I’ll have to turn that photograph into a Scripture Picture someday. :)

Today, I have my Scripture Pictures all throughout our home. I can point to the wall and say to my boys, “Let’s work on memorizing this one today”. And, I switch them out regularly so we always have a new one to work on. Strong Roots Design has been a great part of our family’s lives and we’re looking forward to our next trip! Where should we go next? Let me know in the comments!
